Fundamentalism is not a Contest

Wow, January almost got by with out make a single post. That is really sad. I wanted to go ahead and post a thread here on a subject that I believe is becoming a greater factor for consideration in our Fundamental Baptist Churches. It is of great concern, and I want to get a word in on it before it explodes into finger pointing and hiding in the barn.

I am a fairly young Christian, and I also love being a fundamentalist. I like our standards, I like our stand on the King James Bible and I am pleased that we have not allowed the Gospel message to get fuzzied up. However, from the very beginning I have been disturbed by the Holiness Contest we seem to have going on. There are so many people out there who seek to be a better fundamentalist, and not necessarily a better Christian.

Let me explain. You are right when you stand for modest dress standards. You are right to stand by the King James Bible. You are right to go soulwinning. You are right to have good Godly music in your church. In all of these things you are right. The problem is that a lot of times, we do these things so that we can be seen in the eyes of men as Good Fundies. Well folks, some times good fundies are bad Christians.

A good Christian will serve God with a love in their heart for the savior. A good Christian seeks to win the lost, not to be a soul winner. A good Christian believes that the word of God is the final authority for his life, and reads it. A good Christian enjoys good music because it honors God.

You see, my point here is the same point that Paul makes in Galatians 1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

So what is it that guides our actions? Is it a desire to please our heavenly father, or to please men? We must always be careful, and examine our motives. Am I doing what I do for God, or to be the Best Fundamentalist I can be? Let me give you this advice: Seek to please God, and you will be a good Fundamentalist.
